Who We Are

Community Dental Care has provided quality dental care and education to low-income families for over fifty years. In keeping with its mission, the organization works with local school districts and county health agencies to provide these dental services, and has strategically located its Community Dental Centers to serve the needs of:

  • East Dallas
  • Farmers Branch
  • Vickery Meadows

Community Dental Care fills the gap for affordable dental care among infants, children, teens, adults, and seniors, and the special needs population, all of whom have no other access to dental care.  Tooth decay (dental caries) affects children in the U.S. more than any other chronic infectious disease.  According to the National Institute for Health, “42% of children 2 to 11 have had dental caries in their primary teeth.”  The same report, written by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research states that 51.17% of children ages 6 to 11 have caries in their primary teeth.   The American Dental Association established National Children’s Dental Health Month in 1981, to focus attention on the importance of treating children and teaching them good dental health practices at an early age.

Untreated tooth decay causes pain and infections that may lead to problems affecting one’s ability to eat, speak, play and learn. Early treatment using a combination of dental sealants and fluoride has the potential to nearly eliminate tooth decay in school-age children.

For adults, toothaches are the most common pain of the mouth or face. This pain can interfere with vital functions such as eating, swallowing and talking.  Almost 1 of every 4 adults report some form of facial pain. Community Dental Care ensures that adults have more accessibility to affordable dental care because good oral health is a key component of overall health.

Additionally, the low-income senior population of Texas is in a dental care crisis. Nationwide, dental care costs have skyrocketed, and many seniors on a limited income have little access or no access to dental treatment and information. If untreated, our elderly can end up in the emergency room due to the hidden but deadly effects of dental infection or advanced periodontal disease, easily preventable with the right oral health education and care. Our solution includes making quality low-cost dental services available to more seniors.

In the City of Dallas alone, more than 300,000 children and adults do not have access to dental treatment. In partnership with more than 150 local and regional organizations, Community Dental Care provides preventative care and treatment to children and adults through its dental centers located throughout the community. Also, patients who do not have any dental insurance may qualify for services under our grants.
